Honey is used for many things other than eating. It has been used for thousands of years for wound treatment. The slow release of hydrogen peroxide in honey makes it very effective as an anti-bacterial agent. By being release slowly hydrogen peroxide is able to destoy bacteria without harming live tissue.
The enzyme in honey that produces hydrogen peroxide is called glucose oxidase. Too mach heat and light can reduce the activity of glucose oxidase. Tolerance to heat varies to some degree between different types of honey.
It is always best, when possible, to get unpasturized honey as it will retain its enzyme activity. (Pasturization is essentially purifying through heat.) Unpaturized honey or natural honey (raw honey) will retain its enzyme activity and be more effective at helping to heal wounds.
When storing honey at home, keep in a cool dark place.

Eczema manifests as rough, dry skin which can be found almost anywhere on the body – from the face and body to the feet and hands. It can vary in intensity and can also come a go with the seasons.

Generally believe to be the result of a weakened immune system, excema can cause the skin to become extremely itchy. Relieving the itchiness is often the most foremost issue with most people having this skin problem. With young children and infants it is vital as they often have less self control when it comes to ‘not scratching’.
Seeing a doctor or naturopath to check for allergies and chemical reaction in the environment can go a long way to solving the cause of the eczema. Read the rest of this entry »

It can be difficult to put creams or lotions on swollen or cracked paws that they are not going to try and lick off. Dog paws can take a beating and when they get cracked or swollen the reasons and cures can be similar to those that a two legged person may use. Thentix, with honey, calendula and royal jelly, has been used for years to help with dry cracked heels for people. These ingredients absorb and retain moisture which help the skin heal more quickly. I found recently that many are using it for their dogs. Read the rest of this entry »

Scarring can be unpleasant no matter where it is found on the body. Some can be uncomfortable as well as unsightly.
The best scar treatments I have been able to find are Vitamin E, honey and calendula (marigold). Vitamin E is well know for its healing properties and should be applied to Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve written about cracked heels before. But summer is here and out come the sandals and flip-flops and ouch! A couple of things happen with summer. One is that it is obviously hotter. And because of this we sweat more. When you sweat more you need to drink more water. Most people that I know anyway, don’t drink nearly enough water. They think that because Read the rest of this entry »

Calendula (Calendula Officinalis) is a marigold and part of the daisy family of flowers. These plants have been used for skin treatement for centuries. Calendula, along with honey, is a humectant. Both of these ingredients in Th
entix help the skin by absorbing and retaining moisture. In addition to Calendula’s other healing aspects, it helps bring moisture into the cells of the skin. Skin cells are missing more moisture than oils. As the skin cells become hydrated they become healthier and thus more easily expel various toxins and protect the skin against sun and other damaging effects.
Calendula has been used to help heal skin ulcers, burns and wounds. Both honey and calendula have been used in the treatment of open wounds for centuries. You will find calendula officinalis in many of the better products for handling eczema. I have seen a combination of honey and calendula in Thentix actually get rid of plantars warts.

I talk to a lot of people about their skin. They put all sorts of things on their hands, faces and the rest of their body to keep the skin from drying out or to help ‘hydrate’ it. Read the rest of this entry »
