Treatment for Sore Cracked Dog Paws

It can be difficult to put creams or lotions on swollen or cracked paws that they are not going to try and lick off. Dog paws can take a beating and when they get cracked or swollen the reasons and cures can be similar to those that a two legged person may use. Thentix, with honey, calendula and royal jelly, has been used for years to help with dry cracked heels for people. These ingredients absorb and retain moisture which help the skin heal more quickly. I found recently that many are using it for their dogs.
Thentix has antiseptic properties and will not hurt or sting your dog’s paws. Also, because it is non-toxic, you can safely use it without a worry when they lick their paws after application.
Ensure that they are getting plenty of water, as with humans, dehydration can cause the skin to dry and crack. If there is infection make sure you take your dog to a veteranarian. Make sure that you ask your vet to also check for other mineral deficiencies. In the summer you may want to try and limit the amount of exposure to lawn chemicals and others that may cause damage to your dog’s paws.
If you can get your dog’s paws less itchy and sore he or she will be more likely to leave them alone to heal. Thentix will also take the itch away almost immediately. As a result it can also be used for flea and other insect bites.
