Dry Cracked Hands and Windburn

It is winter. If you are almost anywhere in the US or Canada now you are very likely getting some pretty dry skin. If you have to be outside clearing snow and ice off your car or truck then sometimes even with a decent pair of gloves or mitts your hands are going to get cold. And the moisture is going to be leached out of the skin. And your face in the wind and cold is having the same thing done – it is losing moisture.
Many people will put oils or greasy lotions on their face, hands and other parts of the body as a solution to this dry skin. The problem is that your skin is not missing oil or grease but water. Drinking more water (not juices or coffee or tea but just water) will help.
If you are going to put something on your skin, find something that will actually pull moisture – water into the
cells. Honey does a great job at this as one of its characteristics is that it absorbs and retains moisture. So, ideally, find a cream or lotion that contains honey. And put it on BEFORE you go out in the cold. It will help keep that moisture in the cells when you are out and about in the cold.
If you ski or partake in other winter, outdoor sports and you get windburn on your face, try the same thing. Put something with honey in it to help prevent your skin from getting so dried out when you are on the slopes!
